Athens International Airport (ATH) is located approximately 20 kilometres southeast of the city centre.

  1. One of the most popular and cost-effective ways to travel is by taking the Metro Line 3 (Blue Line). The journey from the airport to Syntagma Square, which is centrally located, takes about 40 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM (to the airport) and from 5:50 AM to 11:20 PM (from the airport), making it accessible for most flight schedules.
  2. Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals area. The journey to the city centre typically takes around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs a fixed rate of approximately 38-50 euros, depending on the time of day (higher rates apply during night hours).
  3. Buses also operate from the airport to various locations in Athens, including Syntagma Square and the KTEL intercity bus terminal. They run 24/7, with several routes available, offering a budget-friendly option for travellers.

It's advisable to have euros on hand for payment, as not all taxis accept credit cards. Additionally, during peak tourist seasons or rush hours, traffic congestion can affect travel times, so planning accordingly is recommended.
