Wheelchair Information

Wheelchair Transport

Your wheelchair travels free, in addition to your baggage allowance.

How it works:

  • Your wheelchair will be transported in the aircraft baggage compartment.
  • You can use your own wheelchair up to the boarding gate (except electric wheelchairs).
  • Or check it at the check-in counter – airport staff will provide a wheelchair to bring you to the aircraft.
  • Your wheelchair will be returned to you immediately after landing or at baggage claim.
Use of Own Wheelchair

Manual wheelchairs are usually carried free of charge in the hold.

You can normally use your own wheelchair up to the aircraft door or gate (depending on airport facilities).

Our teams will then transfer your wheelchair to the hold and return it upon arrival.

Wheelchair Battery Requirements

Different battery types have different rules:

Non-spill liquid batteries:

  • Must be checked in during check-in.
  • Will be transported in the aircraft baggage compartment.
  • Battery terminal must be disconnected and isolated during transport.
  • You must have keys/tools for disconnection.

Lithium-ion batteries:

  • Must be checked in as baggage.
  • Battery terminal must be protected from short circuit.
  • Battery must be securely fastened to the wheelchair.
  • If your wheelchair design allows battery removal, you may transport it in the cabin if:
    • Battery capacity does not exceed 300Wh.
    • Battery terminal is protected.
    • Battery is stowed under the seat in front.

Spare batteries:

  • Maximum one spare battery (up to 300Wh), or
  • Two spare batteries (up to 160Wh each).
  • Must be stowed under the seat in front.

Important: Tell check-in staff your wheelchair weight.

Battery-Powered Wheelchairs & Mobility Devices

Safety regulations apply for battery-powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Inform us at least 48 hours before departure.

Provide details of battery type (e.g. dry cell, gel, lithium) and the weight and dimensions of the device.

Some batteries may need to be disconnected or carried in the cabin according to safety rules.

If information is incomplete or not provided in time, carriage of the device may not be possible for safety reasons.

Guide Dogs

Traveling with Your Guide Dog

Your guide dog can travel with you in the aircraft cabin for free.

  • Dog must have a certificate confirming special training.

Seriously Ill Passengers & Medical Equipment

If you have an acute or unstable medical condition, or a chronic and stable medical condition, you must receive medical clearance from Cyprus Airways before purchasing your ticket.

Contact our Contact Centre at +357 24 00 00 53 to determine if you need a MEDIF (Medical Information Form) or other medical certificate. Clearance should be received at least 72 hours before departure so we can confirm any personalised care or facilities you may need.

Companion care: Your companion must have everything necessary to care for you, including medications and other items you may need.

Important restrictions:

  • Passengers on stretchers cannot be transported.
  • No oxygen cylinders can be transported onboard.
