Your pet is part of the family. We get it—leaving them behind isn't an option. Whether you're taking your furry friend on holiday or bringing them home to Cyprus, flying together should feel straightforward.
Here's what you need to know about bringing your pet on Cyprus Airways, so you can travel with confidence.

Important Route Restrictions
Larnaca to Dubai
No pets in cabin or hold are accepted on flights operating from Larnaca to Dubai.
Animals can only be transported via Cargo on this route.
Before Your Flight
Step 1: Check Pet Requirements
Your pet must be:
- In good health and condition.
- Fit to travel to the final destination.
- Declared if pregnant (requires veterinary certificate).
- Not recently given birth (animals that gave birth in the last 48 hours are not accepted).
Age requirements:
- Puppies and kittens under 12 weeks old: Require veterinary certificate confirming rabies vaccination.
- Animals under 105 days old: Not accepted.
Step 2: Get Your Documents Ready
Required by law (varies by destination):
- Pet passport.
- Vaccination records.
- Microchip documentation.
- Health certificate from your veterinarian (requirements vary by destination).
Check with the destination country: the government of your destination may require import permits or additional documentation. Check with the destination country's agricultural authority before travelling.

Container Requirements
For Cabin and Hold Transport
Your pet must travel in a container that meets these requirements:
Material:
- Firm plastic or metal construction.
Ventilation:
- Adequate ventilation holes for good airflow.
Size:
- Must allow your pet to stand on its feet, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
- Standard maximum: approximately 45cm x 35cm x 20cm (may vary by aircraft type).
Lock:
- Reliable, secure lock that will not open during travel.
Bottom:
- Absorbent and watertight material on the container floor.
For Birds
Bird cages should be covered with dense cloth that does not allow light to pass through.
At the Airport
Before Check-in
Arrive well in advance to go through all necessary formalities without rushing.
At Check-in
You will:
- Present all pet documentation.
- Show your pet to airline staff for health inspection.
- Confirm your container/carrier specifications.
- Confirm your pet meets travel requirements.
Staff will verify:
- Pet is in good health (appears fit to travel).
- Container meets requirements.
- All documents are in order.
- Pet weight is correct.
Important notes: Pregnant animals must have a veterinary certificate confirming the animal is fit to travel and there is no risk of birth during the journey. Animals that gave birth in the last 48 hours are not accepted.
During Your Flight
Pets in Aircraft Cabin
Requirements:
- Maximum weight: 10kg (including carrier).
- Remains in carrier during entire flight.
- Must not disturb other passengers.
Your responsibility:
- Keep your pet calm and secure.
- Ensure your pet does not disturb other passengers.
- You are responsible for any damage caused by your pet.
What to bring:
- Carrier/container.
- Leash and collar.
- Muzzle if needed.
- Water in non-spill container.
- Absorbent pads.
- Any medication your pet needs.
Food and water:
- Pets generally do not need food for 12 hours after departure.
- You may provide water in a non-spill container during the flight.
- Ensure water does not leak from the container.
Pets in Aircraft Hold
Requirements:
- Only dogs and cats accepted.
- Container must meet specifications (see above).
- Pet arrives with your baggage.
Your responsibility:
- Provide proper ventilation in kennel/carrier.
- Include food and water bowl (securely attached to container).
- Use absorbent pads in bottom of container.
- Include comfort items (blanket, toy).
- You are responsible for your pet's comfort and behaviour.
Food and water:
- Pets generally do not need food for 12 hours after departure.
- Provide water in a secure, attached bowl.
- Include absorbent pads to manage water.
Guide Dogs
Requirements
- You have a certificate confirming the dog's special training.
- The guide dog is from an organisation that is a member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) or Assistance Dogs International (ADI).
In the Aircraft
- Your guide dog must wear a muzzle and leash.
- In the cabin, tie your dog to the chair at your feet.
- An extra seat will be reserved next to you (subject to availability).
- No additional charge for the extra seat.

Passengers with guide dogs are classified as requiring special assistance and cannot book tickets online.

Other Animals (Cargo Transport)
Animals other than dogs and cats (birds, rabbits, ferrets, etc.) can be accepted only via Cargo and transported as freight.

- whether your specific animal can be transported,
- health and documentation requirements,
- pricing for freight transport,
- booking procedures.
Special Circumstances
Emotional Support Animals
Emotional support animals are not accepted on Cyprus Airways flights.
Travelling Without You
Can my pet travel if I'm not on the same flight? No. Pets travelling in cabin or hold must be on the same flight as you.
Other animal species (those not transported as cabin/hold pets) can be accepted only via a Cargo provider and as freight.
Strong/Large Breed Dogs
Strong dogs will only be accepted in reinforced kennels conforming to IATA Container Requirement 82.
Exception: Dogs aged 3 to 6 months or weighing up to 10kg are exempt from this requirement. For a list of strong dog breeds and specific requirements, please contact us.
